Akula, I agree with you that there is no reason that "Let there be light" did not result in a Big Bang. I think we have to remember that at the time the Bible was written, most of the scientific knowledge that we have now, was not available to these people. So they did the best they could in trying to explain things. For example, they knew that the wind blows, but the reason why was a mystery to them. Of course, it's not a mystery now. So does the fact that the people of old could not explain why the wind blows, mean that it was not true? C Kahn
