chas, that piece was written by whittington, correct? he's an analyst that covers micron, correct? he's the guy that said micron would earn $17 a few years back, right? please don't be upset, but imho, whittington's analysis nor his motives can be trusted. he has vested self interest in touting micron stock. i, however, would very interested in the source of his information - which he doesn't (can't???) give out. my point is this and it is very simple. i have NEVER seen an independent report that has said mu is the low cost producer. i hear analysts say such things all the time and they NEVER cite a credible source. imho, micron mgmt tells them this is so. the absurdities espoused by micron mgmt have been well documented on this thread. their track record disqualifies them as being credible. the dept of commerce clearly ruled that some korean firms were not dumping at a time when micron was selling parts at or below marginal cost. therefore, the koreans were a lower cost producer. all the mu analysts at that time said mu was the lowest cost producer. the dept of commerce - which had access to very confidential korean financial info - concluded that all the analysts were wrong by saying korean mfrs WERE NOT selling below marginal cost. we will just have to agree to disagree. however, when it is stated as fact that mu is the low cost producer i will take issue with it until someone can provide evidence stronger than the doc evidence - which totally disputes the accuracy of the statement. whittington is not even in the same ballpark. chas, you said i was dreaming if i thought that "folks" (meaning computer mfrs to me) were buying extra dram in case of a y2k shortage b/c nobody was doing that. i said this would explain why end demand to consumers is extremely weak while components prices explode. i asked you to cite a source. heck, i'd even take a cogent argument w/ no source. you ignored the request. i'll ask again. tia...
