Did you have to exercise all of your options before you left the company?

Before you left the company Did the options you were granted have an expiration date?

You missed one other point about these "Nonqualified Options"
The $10,000 that is included on your W-2 to be taxed is also a tax deduction to the Company for the same amount.
This deduction does not show as a expense on the P&L but as a deduction to the tax liability. That is why so many Co's have moved to these non-qualified options because the stockholders at least get the benefit of the lower tax liability.
