MOTOROLA INC (96-3/16, down 2-9/16 @ 9:50 ET) is in talks to buy
cable TV equipment maker GENERAL INSTRUMENT CORP (53-3/8, up 7/8 @
9:51 ET) in a stock deal valued at about $10 bln, the Wall Street
Journal reported in Monday's online edition. Citing "people
familiar with the matter," the Journal said each General
Instrument common share would be exchanged for little more than
half a Motorola share under the proposed union. A deal could be
announced as early as this week, the paper said. The companies
could not immediately be reached by Reuters for comment. For the
