Carl,

I am familiar with how data sheets are written.

Do you think that data lines interconnecting DDR RAM devices need termination? If not, how long do you think the settling time will be?

If you agree that termination is needed, then what characteristic impedance would you assign to the transmission line. The voltage swings are defined by the SSTL2 standard so the power consumption follows inexorably from this. I would be surprised if you chose an impedance greater than 50 ohms. Rambus uses about 28 ohms.

Even a few inches is a long distance in this context.

John

RE: <In many applications where interconnections are short, there is no need for any termination at all.>

As in a 256 MByte module made from 8 256 Mbit chips with only two drams on each data line?
