MedicaLogic Announces Strategic Marketing Relationship with Dell Computer

Business Editors, High-Tech Writers
HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999-- Dell's New Ultramobile Notebook Will Enhance MedicaLogic's Internet-Enabled EMR Technology For Physicians.

MedicaLogic, Inc., (http//www.medicalogic.com), a leading provider of electronic medical records (EMR) and related technology, today announced a strategic relationship with Dell Computer Corporation to provide products, software and services designed to enhance the patient-physician relationship.
The first result of the relationship is a custom-configured ultramobile notebook PC, the Latitude(R) CS. The Latitude CS weighs just 4.3 pounds and will ship directly from Dell loaded with MedicaLogic's Logician(R) Internet, a new web-enabled physician documentation tool. MedicaLogic will be among the first eHealthcare companies to leverage this notebook and DellPlus -- Dell's custom factory installation capabilities -- for their customers.
Participating physicians can lease a new Dell Latitude CS notebook PC, loaded with Logician Internet, Lernout & Hauspie's Voice Xpress(TM) for Medicine speech recognition software, a printer, microphone and many other accessories for only $199 per month. This package eliminates high initial-cost-of-purchase, reduces the cost of ownership and gets the physician up and running immediately.
"MedicaLogic's focus always has been providing physicians with the tools and technology they need to enhance the quality of care," said David Moffenbeier, chief operating officer, MedicaLogic. "With the opportunity to leverage Dell's hardware expertise, we are now able to provide physicians with an affordable offering that will enable them to take their first step toward an EMR solution."
As part of the deal, the two companies plan to work together to develop, implement and integrate desktop, laptop and server-based applications within the eHealthcare and healthcare industries. The deal includes, but is not limited to, Internet-based cross-promotional opportunities and other co-marketing initiatives.
"We see significant potential for improvement in the process of delivering healthcare in the United States and globally as the Internet empowers people and healthcare professionals timely access to important information," said John Kinnaird, general manager, Dell. "We're pleased to be able to bring the benefits of technology and Dell's direct model to MedicaLogic and thereby the healthcare industry."
As part of the agreement, Dell will add a MedicaLogic link on its dedicated healthcare site, www.dell.com/business/healthcare/hcalliance.htm, and create a Dell Premier Page(SM) enabling MedicaLogic physicians to price, order and track the status of Dell systems via an exclusive and secure Web site. MedicaLogic will also place a link through www.medicalogic.com to the Dell dedicated healthcare site where MedicaLogic customers will be able to order Dell goods and services directly.
Separately, Dell is also making a minority investment in MedicaLogic. The terms and amount of the investment were not disclosed.
