Peppe,NN has no product in CPE routers, ethernet switches, mid to high end routers, edge ATM devices, enterprise
ATM solutions, cable head-end solutions, terebit routers (IronBridge notwithstanding). These are holes that
exist in the data side. On the voice side they have no class5 solution, limited class4 solutions, no PBX(ip or
otherwise). On the optical transport side, I NN is lacking in DWDM (why did they sell Cambrian !!), no cross
connect products, no ADMs, or SONET gear.

LOL
a)edge ATM devices:36170 platform is used quite often on edge. With 50 gig in the core and 320 on the edge of the core 36170 will migrate closer to customer premise.
From IXC Com."The Gemini2000 network combines advanced technology from industry leaders Cisco
Systems, Nortel Networks, and Newbridge Networks. Cisco provided the majority of
routers for the network, including the GSR 12000 series of gigabit routers. Nortel supplied
Layer 1 optronics equipment, including the OC-48 and optical interface cards. The
ATM/Frame Relay access switches that pass traffic to the network are from Newbridge. "
ixc-comm.com
Also look at map of the network to see where 36170 is placed.
I also encourage you to visit NN products portfolio, to see
36150 switch which delivers data, voice and TV!!! over ADSL.
Perfect business case for telcos:internet+ TV.
routers :do not forget about Northchurch and IronBridge

limited class4 solutions:
before you said this, better search more who is interested in NN class 4 solution

NN ATM platform run DWDM too

no cross
connect products, no ADMs, or SONET gear.

again look at NN home page for product solution, and who is using them

enterprise: looks to me that you forgot that 20% of NN business is from WAN enterprise.
What about NN/ATT in IBM recovery network,Bank One, CitiBank
etc.

Regards
Zbyslaw

Peppe --

Many of the products you mention have never been targetted by NN. In the areas they do target, they have 350 carrier customers globally and continue to add to that list every quarter. Conversely, Cisco hasn't been able to keep their carrier customers in the area under discussion.

So Pat, I really don't think it's about IP/ATM strategy. It's about being able to deliver complete solutions that work, even if the ATM solution isn't quite as good or if their DWDM solutions are 40 wave lengths instead of 80 this quarter.

Is Cisco delivering complete solutions? If so, please address their problems at Telia and Sprint.
