Don - If AXC has a patent on technology to address the buffering problem, why the heck don't they publicize it. ( Did I get your point right? ). If I do understand you correctly, this would be the biggest development yet in video streaming...............V

Would that be applicable to transmitted data, or only data read from an input device such as a tape drive? The buffering requirements would be much different as the internet input would be unpredictable while the tape input would be constant. I would guess that the Ampex buffering patent relates to a constant rate input which must be decompressed and which, due to variable compression rates, would lead to a variable rate output which would need to be buffered in order to supply output at a constant rate. If I am correct, then I'm not sure it would apply to the internet where the data is compressed, but where the input speed is unpredictable. Carl
