I think what you might be seeing is MMs are no longer "allowing" those steady upticks to go unchecked. I would say they are shorting these heights and putting a cap on many recently run IPO's. . .very generally speaking, of course.

I agree that there are plenty of bargains in the quality sector. . .but the question then arises. . .where is the volume? We should have had some serious volume hitting the bluechips by now after summer. . . certainly there isn't a REAL fear of Y2K. . . could it be China? Or is it just complacency. . .not knowing what to do . .sitting on hands?

No decisive betting going on with big volume. That has me a bit concerned in the overall picture. . . .near-term it still presents some speculative opportunity for the right issues. . .if not IPOs, then Bio-techs or whatever. . .but the speculative fever is definitely not quelled yet. . . . we may need to re-sensitize ourselves to the mood and buzz of the speculators/daytraders. After all, they are the ones paying us all that dough from our position trades.

Once more, it is not the REAL market we are playing. . .but a speculative mania bubble, within a high-tech mania bubble.
