Thanks! With your tip I have already located it and booked it to use in talking about Yeats's "Easter 1916." The part I want is an extremely convincing reenactment of the devastation of central Dublin. Until I saw photographs of it a few years ago, I had no idea how much damage had been done. I have not seen "Saving Private Ryan" for the same reasons as you cite about this film. I found "Michael Collins" convincing but not gratuitously horrifying when I caught it on TV--or maybe my wide brought it home, a year or two ago.
