djane, I don't know if I'm 'more informed', but I agree completely that VOD - BEL - GTE deal is a BIG plus for GSTRF. In fact, one analyst (CSFB I think) specifically mentioned this fact going into last week's (in)famous analyst conference. VOD/BEL will not only have the most extensive US wireless network, they will be able to one up everyone on the 'swiss cheese' issue and I believe really make them squeal for mercy. As far as VOD goes, it looks like they will be minority partner, but their large G* interest will be their trump card here so they will especially be keen to exploit it in the new US cellular powerhouse that comes of this.

Clearly positive. Gives footprint for unified marketing plan in the U.S. by a national carrier with local presence in local markets.
