TrueSAN Networks Launches First Embedded LUN Masking Technology for Fibre Channel SANs

Delivers SANengage™ Technology for Enterprise-wide Data Consolidation and Asset Protection

Mountain View, CA. September 14, 1999: TrueSAN Networks, a leader in Fibre Channel disk array and storage-area network solutions for the internetworked enterprise, today launched its advanced SANengage™ technology, the world's first hardware-based Fibre Channel LUN masking and volume locking architecture for storage-area networks (SANs).

Embedded within the Company's revolutionary TrueFibre™ architecture, SANengage opens the possibility of sharing a common storage system between multiple host computers without software. Regardless of the resident operating system, the host can have exclusive access to its own logical partition on the TrueSAN 6000FC solution as well as shared access to other areas of the system. The hardware-based mapping function allows administrators to interactively allocate logical partitions of the 6000FC to specific hosts based on their Fibre Channel world-wide name (WWN), providing rock-solid data protection in an enterprise SAN environment.

Dynamic Enterprise-Wide Data Consolidation

When combined with a full-fabric switch from partner Ancor Communications, SANengage enables connected devices to be assigned to dedicated storage zones. “TrueSAN has developed critical technology for enabling customers to quickly realize the management benefits of storage consolidation in a switched SAN without compromising data security,” said Carla Kennedy, Ancor's vice president of marketing. “That's consistent with our focus on building scalable switched fabrics that are easy to manage and robust enough for the most demanding enterprise environments.”

Furthermore, IS managers can dynamically allocate storage capacity and reading/writing privileges to create a unified storage network that is securely accessible to the entire information infrastructure. The Fibre Channel connectivity for the TrueSAN 6000FC powered by SANengage is based on the award-winning ISP2100 Fibre Channel processor from Qlogic. "TrueSAN's design combines the performance of Fibre Channel RAID with the functionality needed for real-life SAN solutions," said Samir Desai, Qlogic's Fibre Channel Product Manager. "QLogic's ISP2100, embedded within the 6000FC's TrueFibre™ architecture, provides the high-performance and ease of migration this market demands."

Volume-level Record Locking, LUN Masking

In addition, volume-level read/write privileges can be set for security measures and safe data consolidation. Corporations can consolidate data assets across Windows NT, Linux, UNIX, Solaris, Novell, and other platforms while dramatically improving LAN performance, network efficiency, and information availability. When paired with Gadzoox Networks' Capellix chassis switch, TrueSAN offers end-users a robust platform that can seamlessly scale with the rapid growth of today's data farms. "As enterprise environments converge on SANs to provide storage solutions, Gadzoox and TrueSAN work together to consolidate network efficiency," said Dave Tang, Gadzoox Networks, vice president of marketing. "With Gadzoox's Capellix switch providing ultra high level performance and unique pay as you grow port scalability and TrueSAN's SANengage technology, a foundation is provided that achieves data availability and total cost of ownership levels that are essential to the success of SANs in today's data-centric business environment."
