Karen,

Although my own preparations have been substantial, I am probably to the left of Bearcub. Your analysis, however, of the Titanic argument was excellent and caused me to reevaluate what the government should be telling the American people.

No matter what our individual responses may be to this conundrum, none of us really knows, and that is what makes it all so fascinating.

I do feel the Feds would better serve the population by acknowledging this lack of certainty and suggesting at least a month's worth of food, water and warmth.

Thanks for taking the time to outline your evaluation of the Titanic plot. I could not have done it so rigorously.

>>As I said earlier, I like your analogy. The one flaw it has is that we already know the
Titanic sinks. But no one knows what Y2K will bring.<<
You wrote a good post... and since most of those who have done research know the iceberg is coming they should prepare. You are not one of those dancing in the ballroom-you have warning-take advantage.
Call your Dad tomorrow and stick your neck on the line and save him possible harm.

I liked your ideas a lot.

However, if the boat were in warm waters, a life jacket would have saved lives. A 1000 more!

If the end of the world is coming, why scare everyone. I agree.

But limited shortages of food, water, and heat can be prepared for.

Everyone should put on their life jackets!

Seat belts save lives, so can planning in advance.

>>OMB Says Y2K Work Is 97
Percent Done
Pentagon Has 161 Systems Left to Fix

By Stephen Barr

The government has completed 97 percent of the Year
2000 computer fixes on its most critical electronic
systems, the Office of Management and Budget said
yesterday in a quarterly report on federal Y2K efforts.

Of 24 large Cabinet departments and agencies that
provide vital federal services, 15 have wrapped up their
Y2K repairs and tests and nine agencies have a
combined total of 217 critical systems that still require
repair or replacement. The Defense Department owns
161 of those systems and appears likely to keep working
on Y2K right up to Jan. 1.<<
