Tom had been trying for well over a year to move her down to the DC area, where he already had a condo--bought for his parents, who have died. Meanwhile, she had some very kind neighbors who kept an eye on her.

She wasn't so far gone that one could have "put" her in a home. And I think she was afraid to move because of the daunting task it would entail--as we are discovering.
