I can't claim to know what happened at the time of the big bang or especially before. It could be that an alien race finally got funding for a super-duper particle accelerator and it got away from them. My personal conjecture is that when enough matter falls into a black hole, perhaps after trillions and trillions of years of accumulation it finally reaches critical mass and explodes. The truth is I don't know, Someday a human may know, it's worthwhile to study the background radiation for evidence.
