Evolution is simply the way for people with no faith to describe why they exist. Some people have to believe that they are in 100% complete control of everything.. and to say that there is a "higher" power simply doesn't appeal to them......

he apes who couldn't figure how to evolve into a higher lifeform unlike us. Ofcourse there's still been no real explanation along those lines as to why we would have over them.

If you go to africa you see lots of varieties of apes, monkeys, chimpanzees etc. Some species or breeds seem to be much smarter than others, I don't know why. For example these white-faced monkeys in Kenya... you hardly ever seem them except hanging around the hotels and safari camps. They learned how to unzip the tents, so now all the guests are instructed to tie a knot at the opening of the tent because they don't know how to untie knots yet. If somebody forgets to tie a knot, these monkeys will go into the tent, eat all the food in the refridgerator, pretend they are sleeping in your bed and put on your clothes. Its amazing to see this - its like looking at a child in the middle of their development process. Other monkeys/apes etc are not this inquisitive.

I saw one theory regarding the evolution of Lucy where her ability to walk upright is seen as the precursor to further analytical development and critical thinking. Most scientists for a long time thought it was the other way around. The point being a genetic change (walking upright) or environmental change could have the effect of one species developing before another.

So perhaps the simple case of these white-faced monkeys living in the proximity of humans will allow them to develop intellectually beyond the gorillas in Zaire, etc. It makes perfect sense to me.. I can't imagine an alternative, can you?

who couldn't figure how to evolve
You are really missing the basics. No living thing chooses how to evolve. It is just a matter of having offspring. Those who survive to have offspring contribute to the next generation while those who don't are no longer represented. I am very proud of the fact that every one of my ancestors, and I'm talking about a heritage of BILLIONS of years, lived long enough to successfully reproduce.
