Thanks for the link. My personal opinion:

The company's saying that the timing has to do with Palm's attaining critical mass is not without merit. However, I think it also had to do with employee retention. As the article suggested, Palm is a different kind of animal than COMS, yet it has had to deal with the administrative (and all other) headaches of being part of a larger and different kind of company.

MSFT keeps trying, but it is not going to get where it wants to go in this market, IMO, although it may link with Palm in the long run....

BTW, re the licensing of the Palm operating system: I think that the emphasis on more aggressiveness in pursuit of this source of revenue suggests more entrants into the handheld business during the coming months.
