I sure have been tempted, but I think the Internet leaders are better investments. Aside from Microsoft, there aren't any software companies I can think of that benefit from network effects.

However the names I have always liked the most are SAP, CA, Microsoft (the business, not the ethics), Oracle, Siebel, Documentum, HNC, and Electronic Arts.
