Bank Austria reports suspected money laundering
VIENNA, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Bank Austria, the country's biggest commercial bank, said on Monday it had informed the police of suspected money laundering involving eastern Europeans.
A spokesman for the bank said Austria's EDOK police unit, which specialises in fighting organised crime, was told a year and a half ago about suspicious money transactions going into accounts at the bank.
``The transactions were mostly of east European background,' he said, but he could not confirm a report in the Wall Street Journal newspaper that Russians might also be involved.(cont)
