Best of Show Awards; Red-C 16000 Open Architecture Device Named Finalist in
Carrier Equipment Category

ATLANTA, Sep 13, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NBase-Xyplex, a division of
MRV Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:MRVC), today announced that its
"intelligent" open subscriber management system for service providers,
the Red-C 16000, was named a finalist in the Carrier Equipment category
of the Networld+Interop/Fall '99 Best of Show Awards.

Winners, selected by Data Communications and InternetWeek editors, will
be announced Tuesday evening at the Georgia World Convention Center in
Atlanta.

Announced for the first time this week and debuting at Networld+Interop
in NBase-Xyplex booth No. 6746, the Red-C 16000 is the industry's first
intelligent networking device for subscriber management that enables
easy integration of new applications with an "open" architecture.

The Red-C 16000 is the first product in NBase-Xyplex's new Red Sea
product line designed specifically for service providers. General
availability is scheduled for Q4 '99. The Red-C 16000 was developed and
will be manufactured by NBase-Xyplex in Littleton, Mass.

The Networld+Interop Best of Show Product Awards is designed to help
end-users and service providers evaluate the expansive offering of new
products that debut at the Networld+Interop '99 Atlanta. The editors of
Data Communications and InternetWeek, two of CMP Media's premier
networking publications, scour the industry and show floor evaluating
hundreds of new products, selecting finalists for their cutting-edge
networking benefits.

"NBase-Xyplex is delivering the industry's first 'open' subscriber
management solution for easy integration of new applications," said
Philippe Szwarc, general manager of NBase-Xyplex. "This prestigious
recognition only reinforces NBase-Xyplex's commitment to providing
superior networking solutions to our customers."

About the Red-C 16000

The Red-C 16000 from NBase-Xyplex is an intelligent networking device
for subscriber management that enables easy integration of new
applications with an "open" architecture. The Red-C 16000 provides many
native services such as QoS, VPN, policy-based management, etc., and a
flexible integration of "best-of-breed" emerging services such as
Voice-over-DSL, Video-on-Demand or firewall security, all combined with
connectivity to a carrier's billing and authentication systems.

The result is the forward-thinking Red-C Open Subscriber System (OSS),
flexible for today's carrier requirements and scalable to tomorrow's
demands. The Red-C 16000 enables provisioning and management of
cutting-edge services such as video-on-demand, voice-over IP and VPN
