There are definitely some negatives that the market has to deal with, such as, as you have noted, energy costs and interests rates. Maybe we can throw in some, shall we say, valuations at the extreme.

But, earnings are not part of the problem, despite the fact that we are in the middle of the warnings season. Going into July, the estimates for the Big Boyz were an average of .67, and, as magic, they came in at and average of .67. This was a 15.5% increase over the prior year.

As of a couple of weeks ago, the estimate average for this quarter was .63. Since last year was so crummy, it represents a potential 43% increase.

Of course, none of this FA stuff helps the cloudy short term picture with an OEX that looks sick (60 min chart) and a CPI report on the horizon. Wednesday is going to be interesting. Behind door number one is the lady and door number two ...
