Re: Does anyone know this "got apex" guy?

He seems to be a new entry into the benchmarker's club. He did a glowing review of the Pentium 550, overclocking it substantially to show that Athlon isn't the only chip with some room on the upside. Since then, someone seems to have given him a camino board, but no configuration support, and no rambus for it.

This is getting to be a bit wierd. We've had several vague "sort of benchmarks" that are terrible, but seem to come from sources that are linked to Intel/Rambus. Maybe they are some people at one of the two companies, or some of their allies, who are trying to lower expectations so that if they can produce a 5% improvement over PC100, it will become an upside surprise.

It's time for a press release along the lines of "PC800 will make your present productivity programs run 5 to 50 percent faster, and future programs will benefit even more".

If they can't claim even that much, after all hype leading up to Coppermine/Rambus/Camino, then they have to start lowering expectations fast, and it could be that that is exactly what is going on now.

Or maybe it's all wrong, and Rambus will provide a big performance boost, we'll know soon enough.
