Great list, Neo. I had a few of the same on mine. I have not heard of the Matthew Arnold, I'll have to do a little homework. So happy to hear the Southern Agrarians mentioned! Attack on Leviathan by Donald Davidson demolishes the modern state, but who outside a small cadre has read him or any of the other Nashville rebels?

I recently had a spirited argument with my brother (a big time neocon) over what the most important conservative book was that came out post WWII. He was saying God and Man at Yale, and I was saying The Conservative Mind. Wait until I tell him that SI's resident neocon agrees with me! LOL

Anyway, back to the list. The reason I didn't post anything yet is because I was trying to think of books that moved the public mind the way certain liberal books have. No doubt the books you mention are vigorous champions, some are even monuments, but how many in the public were actually swayed? They were not widely read, with the exception of 1984. Maybe thats the idea, look to literature...
