Mike,

This is options rig week. Any minute now we should start getting "mental patient" rallies. (see MU) No chance in hell the CPI comes out worse than expected during options rig week. It may not be a good one, but it's guaranteed to be better than expected or as expected. That should cause the clockwork rally. (g)

Is this tortured or what?

>>The main reason we are not excessively bearish regarding stocks, despite the current over-valuation, is the nature of modern money. The US stock market has never been as highly priced as it is today, but the US Dollar has never been as worthless as it is today.

There are many similarities between the stock market mania of the late 1920s and that of the late 1990s, but the critical difference is the unit of measurement itself. At the time of the 1929 crash and subsequent depression, stocks were priced in terms of a rock solid currency. They are now priced in terms of something that can be created in unlimited amounts at the whim of bureaucrats and politicians. When the US debt bubble begins to unravel, the Federal Reserve will provide whatever amount of money is necessary to prevent a sharp decline in asset prices and a severe recession. They can do this by monetising bank assets.

If gold really rallies -- it won't matter much if you bought ASA at 15 1/2 or 17 1/2, right?

I know, I know, you'd have two points more ... :-)

Mike, I made a portfolio of your picks in the post I am responding to. It is official. You beat that foul mouth, arrogant jack-ass Paul Engel - hands down. Next time that idiot shows-up on this thread, show him these two links.

Engel: siliconinvestor.com

Burke: siliconinvestor.com

As at the open today, March 9, 2000 the two portfolio look like this:

Mike Burke's Picks:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Symbol Price Shares Cost Value Gain/ % Gain/
Loss Loss
--------------------------------------------------------------------
CEGE 45 9/16 1,081 10,024 49,253 39,229 +391.3%
DRMD 9 952 10,021 8,568 -1,453 -14.5%
GZTC 38 1/8 1,274 10,026 48,571 38,545 +384.5%

Paul A'hole's Picks

INTC 114 15/16 701.25 60,245 80,600 20,355 +33.8%
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimers and footnotes: Mike Burke realizes that his portfolio got a boost from the general insanity prevailing in the market. Paul Engle, OTOH, thinks that he is hot-shit in a champaign cup, when in fact he is a cold-piss in a dixie cup! -g- The numbers prove it. If shorts were to be added, I think Mike will gladly oblize. In which case, Paul has to put his AMD short in the list. -g-
