ATLANTA, July 28, 1998 -- CheckFree (Nasdaq: CKFR) announced today a two-year agreement with NationsBank whereby CheckFree will provide expanded ACH system support for NationsBank. NationsBank is the fifth largest originator of ACH transactions, according to the most recent American Banker survey of ACH originators. NationsBank has used CheckFree's PEP+ ACH processing platform since 1986 to provide electronic payments for individual and corporate customers. Under this new agreement, NationsBank will continue to operate its ACH system, while CheckFree will provide ongoing system support -- including Year 2000 and NACHA compliance. In addition, CheckFree will maintain on-site specialists at NationsBank ACH processing centers to service the bank's PEP+ system, as well as a dedicated technical support representative at the CheckFree Atlanta office. "This agreement with CheckFree provides a prime opportunity for us to focus our internal resources on enhancing customer service, expanding into new markets and increasing revenue potential, rather than on day-to-day system maintenance," said Paul Johnson, senior vice president at NationsBank. Sean Feeney, president of CheckFree Software, added, "This service agreement provides NationsBank with the best of both worlds -- the largest ACH software provider, plus unbeatable on-site technical support from the company that developed it." CheckFree's PEP+ software is used by 81 of the nation's top 100 banks to conduct more than two-thirds of all ACH transactions. For those banks that prefer to outsource ACH processing, CheckFree provides ACH Alliance Processing. Current ACH Alliance Partners include Harris Bank and First Commerce Technologies.
