I too agree that this is a good start, but I'm not as convinced that the answer "will be banks". If I would have followed the same logic then it would seem that the best news sites on the Internet would be the newspapers, and the best stock trading sites would be the existing brokerages, and the best book sellers would be the book stores. But as we all know, this is not the case. Instead, the Internet has created a world where almost anyone can succeed at a business where brick-and-mortar have no experience.

To me? This is simple ...

Release the software necessary so that *anyone* can be come a identity provider. Give away the software, which runs on my platform, which allows for the creation of powerful communities. Then include the software applications for all platforms which can take advantage of these new services.

Throw all of these seeds into the wind and see what grows! ;-)
