G'day Bill & all - well, maybe the Honourable Dr Mahathir Mohammad would attribute the jailing of FEER bureau chief, Mr Murray Hiebert, a plot [instigated by foreign agents, no doubt,] to make the democratic Malaysia to look bad <VBG>!

Anger at cigarette handouts

Cigarette maker Japan Tobacco had anti-smoking activists gasping
yesterday over its plan to give millions of cigarettes to nursing
homes. "This is practically telling people to hurry up and die,"
said Bungaku Watanabe, head of the Tobacco Problems Information Centre.

Mr Hayashida said that while the number of cigarettes to be
distributed this year was undecided, in 1998 it passed out around
15 million cigarettes to about 5,000 nursing homes.
