When was that? I'm not familiar with the history there.

Well, I can't ask Kansas or anywhere else not to teach something I object to. I most definitely object to teaching religion or creationism... mostly because I think it presents an idea and asks the students to accept that idea, discouraging any "finding of facts" associated with the concepts. As opposed to the scientific arguments of evolution which present the concepts but encourage scientific verification (most of which isn't there now, agreed). So its more the method than the madness that I have a problem with. Anyway I used to object to the "not my tax dollars" argument but the pro-lifers have made a ritual out of that so I don't see any reason not to apply it to this situation.
