Mike, what's more, once an asset bubble deflates, the banks are usually in deep sh*t and thus unwilling to lend. in Japan, despite valiant efforts to bring the banks back from the brink, nothing has really worked up until now. NOW i believe the Japanese banks have a chance, due to the wide spread between long and short rates in Japan, but it will still take a while to sort the mess out.
