MZ, i have seen similar things happening in the past...imagine being short Japan from Nikkei 36,000...pure agony for about two months, and then in early '90 the bottom just fell out.
a market that goes relentlessly up in the face of deteriorating fundamentals and internals is doomed to sober up violently at some point. much depends on the bond market - if yields rise further (which looks very likely to me, i believe Jim Bianco's views on the connection between the stock market and bonds are correct) there will be a massive reallocation of assets at some point, just as happened in '87.
re: Bianco: he believes that stock prices (wealth effect) now drive the demand side of the economy, which in turn drives bond yields higher.
