From Telephony Magazineinternettelephony.com Syndesis salutes DSL Provisioning tool accelerates time to market HANNA HURLEY DSL providers are making headway in their ongoing battle for high-speed access mind share. Within the last six months, DSL has graduated from acronym obscurity to chic commodity. With demand higher than supply, multiple manufacturers are rushing to market with tools designed to help carriers simplify DSL provisioning. Among the new entrants are Astrocon, HarmonyCom and SmallWorld, which have introduced DSL provisioning software. Syndesis joined the fray last week with its NetProvision Creator for DSL. Carriers can use NetProvision Creator to create DSL service profiles for value-added services over multiple networks and technologies. The software automates DSL subscriber activation and eliminates segmented, manual activation. NetProvision Creator is tightly integrated with NetProvision Activator. Creator defines services and profiles, while Activator deploys the services across IP, ATM or frame relay networks. U S West is using NetProvision Activator within its Umbrella Management System, which will provide provisioning, performance management and fault management. Within the next two weeks U S West will cut over its current Newbridge Networks infrastructure to a Cisco Systems infrastructure . "Syndesis allows us to move from one platform to another and to move connections quickly to new switches in an automated fashion," said Will Walling, manager of the Umbrella Management System development at U S West. "NetProvision Creator lifts the data from abstraction and speaks to the level of the customers," said Martin Steinmann, vice president of marketing for Syndesis. "Combined, our products can move the time to provision services from the typical 15 to 25 days to hours."
