Sony's not going to release a console for more than $299, no matter how powerful it is. They know what's needed for the console to sell. Their biggest challenge, in my opinion, is not selling the hardware, but software. Developers are facing some serious hurdles as they confront the PS2 dev kits. Sony knows this, and that's why they've established their middleware program to help provide developers with the necessary tools. Still, it could take developers a long time to make better games for the PS2 than for the DC.
