Geiche,
I've owned this one (well, I've traded it) in so many forms (common, convertible debentures) for so long, I've kind of lost track a little, but will try to get a little more up to speed with my broker tomorrow.
Quick synopsis: ROIL is the result of the merging of Box Energy A&B Common into one class. A shareholders received a premium. One of the major shareholders (I believe he owns the most shares) is J. R. Simplot (on CNBC nicknamed the "spud stud"). Subsequent to this event, the Box family was, to a great degree, put in the background, thus preventing incessant family infighting - IMO good for the company; one Box family member remains on the board. James Watt is the CEO, and I hold him in very high regard, as well as David Hawk, the COB.
It has received several upgrades recently, the latest today being, I believe, from Southcoast Capital. It's a small E&P with about 47% revs. derived from oil last Q, the remainder from nat. gas. That being said, it is obviously a play on improving pricing in these two domains. We shareholders are obviously hoping for some good finds, as well, in the exploratory process.
It is exploring for product in a JV with DDD (owned by Seitel) and others.
Hope this helps.
