Challo, in Europe, and specifically in Austria, the unions are still a lot more powerful than in the U.S., which basically results in a highly regulated economic environment over here.

the tightness of the U.S. labor market suggested it would only be a matter of time before the unions began to flex what muscle they have. see recent wage agreements at Boeing and NW Airlines as well as the ongoing negotiations in the auto industry: big pay rises are becoming the norm. of course it can be argued that real wages are overdue for an upward adjustment. nevertheless, this is clearly inflationary, and surely is something on the Fed's radar screen.
