Is this TW announcement related to the equipment Divicom sold to them? Time Warner Cable starts N.Y. Road Runner rollout NEW YORK, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Time Warner Cable said Tuesday it has begun rolling out its Road Runner high-speed Internet access in select areas of New York City and plans to offer the service city-wide by Spring 2001. The service will cost existing Time Warner cable TV customers $39.95 per month, including the rental of the required cable modem. There is also an installation charge of $99 per computer, which covers the necessary Ethernet card, software and the modem. Non-cable TV subscribers will be charged $59.95 per month, including the modem rental. The service will initially be offered in parts of Manhattan and Queens. Each user of the service will be able to create up to five unique e-mail adresses and be allocated five megabytes of "Web space" to create a personal home page. The high-speed, "always-on" service is carried through cable TV lines and connected to a PC with a cable modem. It is up to 50 times faster than conventional phone-line Internet access. Time Warner Cable, part of diversified media company Time Warner Inc. <TWX.N>, already offers the Road Runner service through dozens of cable systems in about 30 U.S. markets and has about 350,000 subscribers for it, the company said. Road Runner was launched in 1996. Time Warner Cable in New York City has more than a million customers. One of Time Warner's Internet-service rivals, telephone company Bell Atlantic Corp. <BEL.N>, began in July selling residential digital subscriber line service in Manhattan. DSL is a high-speed, on-line offering using existing copper telephone wires. An entry-level Bell Atlantic service package including Internet access cost about $50 per month. 18:28 09-14-99 Copyright 1999 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved.
