A better point might be that the Coppermine introduction is coming up and Intel is making room at the top. But, about those K6-II and III prices, they are holding up better these days, many of them are at parity with similar speed intel chips, they used to have to sell them considerably cheaper.

The comment that $900 Athlons would be disproportionately impacted by memory price increases was not reasonable. As has been pointed out on this thread, Intel has recaptured, by a moderate margin, the sales lead in the low end. With all of the benefits of holding on to that market come all of the drawbacks as well.
