to: CharleyMike from: truedog CM,all I can say for myself is that I try to obey the rules as specified in the New Testament of the Bible.I am not perfect.I sometimes fail in my attempts but,I keep on trying.It is my belief that if the effort to comply is genuine, it carries weight. There are a number of groups in the Houston area that are not radical nor do they worship in the manner of denominational congregations. I can't promise it will change your mind but,it might make you think that all Christians are not puritans. When you mentioned your education,I realized that you were,in fact,a native. In the spirit of confession,I once thought as you do because,after trying Methodist(where I grew up),Baptist,Episcopal,Lutheran, Catholic and probably others I have forgotten,I was very dissappointed in what was going on. Since,in all cases,the congregation talked more about who was going to pay for paving the parking lot than what Jesus said,I bailed out of religion. They also taught that the only way to worship God was to fear his retribution. I have found that more and more people worship God by rejoicing,singing, and dancing. I only said that "downtown" Houston was not beautiful.That is what your profile showed you said. The suburbs,quite often are very beautiful and are a pleasure to live in. I do not live within the city limits but am still in Harris Cty. It is even getting too over populated out here to suit me but,I have moved too many times to consider moving again....TD
