Why can't CMGi announce pre announce earnings a la qcom if they are so far away from analysts estimates?

Based on current performance in each of its business units, Qualcomm(QCOM) announced today that fourth fiscal quarter earnings from operations will meet or exceed analyst consensus estimates of $.87 per share. The
company also stated that it is considering several strategic options for its handset business.

I'm one of those people who believe that cmgi is not a co. to be judged by earnings, per se. They could have whatever earnings they want, essentially, but I see them as building up cash and NAV to keep the industry churning, bring out and build up their babies, until one day we wake up to find its equity is worth zillions.

I am interested in seeing what it can do with av acquisition, however, and whether its capable of building that into a platform for its many other holdings. I believe strongly in the value of its synergy building capabilities, especially given the level of competition in the inets. My sense is with cmgi as a sugar daddy, any start-up lucky enough to catch DW's eye has the inside track on domination. But why the hell do the new kids on the block, a la icge, get more (better) attention than the proven winner?

Zen,

I have read your very informative posts. You are a good guy. I was wondering whether you have talked with anyone at CMGI about earnings guidance. I noticed you have a dialogue with DW. I agree that with all of the stock sales and IPOs, they might blow the doors out, and the market would love it.

Regards

ZenWarrior:

Not that I dislike your figure of $6.7/share
for the upcoming CMGI earning report, I just couldn't
comprehend why there is such a big gap between your number
and all the numbers produced by the so called smart-money,
they have all the tools and analyses and their numbers
should not be so off-based.

How were your predictions of CMGI in the last few quarters?
were they closing to what the samrt-money said or your
number was always on target?

Thanks.
