I would not defend the exceptions if I were not prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the woman making a reasonable claim of rape. As for the rest, if the person is not willing to claim the exemption, then she foregoes it....I have independent problems with the date rape classification, but as long as it is recognized, I would be willing to honor any credible claim to exemption. As for spousal rape, I would be more dubious, but I have not thought hard about it....
