J.D. -
We're miles ahead of the competition. Hell, make that light years.

DELL's development work is almost exclusively devoted to improving the serviceability of their products or is related to manufacturing processes. They leave most of the heavy lifting to Intel or to others in the business like IBM and CPQ.

That has been a source of strength for DELL - their development cost as a percentage of sales is about 1/3 that of CPQ. But it does mean that DELL is light years ahead in manufacturing and distribution, not in technology.

The Street seems to have like the CPI numbers. Quite a turn around in the Futures. 50 isn't that far away.
