Global Test Purchases Multiple High-Performance VLSI Testers from Teradyne
TEIPEI, Taiwan, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER - news) announced today that it has shipped multiple J971 and J973 VLSI Test Systems to Global Test. The test systems, which will be used to test a wide range of high-performance VLSI devices including integrated processors, embedded microprocessors and graphics controllers, are slated for installation at Global Test's Sunnyvale engineering development center and at Global Test's Taiwan headquarters and production facility.

``Since Teradyne's testers offer the best performance and value for our money, we have chosen to purchase Teradyne systems,' said Raymond Lai, Vice President of the Global Test engineering development center. ``Our customers need access to systems that can fully characterize and test complex VLSI devices. The J971 system provides superior test economics for most higher performance VLSI devices, while the J973 provides the power and flexibility to test our customer's highest performance devices including RAMBUS. Teradyne has also provided excellent support from the world's largest network of sales, applications and service engineers.'

According to Peter Yu, Subcon Product Manager at Teradyne, ``Unlike integrated device manufacturers which can plan test requirements months in advance, test service providers like Global Test must be able to offer a wide range of test capabilities on very short notice. The J973 is ideally suited for subcontract companies like Global Test. In addition to its industry leading logic test capability, the J973 can be configured with advanced memory, broad scan, and graphics test capabilities. It is the one system on the market that can cost effectively test integrated processors on Monday, RAMBUS devices on Tuesday and graphics controllers with RAMDACs on Wednesday.'

The J973 is the industry standard for high performance VLSI test systems. With over 125 systems installed worldwide, the J973 has conclusively demonstrated that it is the proven production solution of choice for embedded core logic devices. One of the primary benefits of the J973 for subcontractors is compatibility with the world's largest VLSI tester installed customer base of over 500 systems -- it shares a common program development system, the IG900+ Software System, with the J971. IG900+ provides fully compatible porting between the J971 and J973, which means that J971 customers can use J973s for production capacity and next generation device development.

``Global Test has proven their ability to produce cost effective J971/J973 characterization and production solutions,' remarked Shane McMillin, the Teradyne Account Manager for Global Test's Sunnyvale test development center. ``The Teradyne fabless/subcon team based in San Jose has worked closely with GT and the Teradyne Taiwan fabless/subcon team to ensure that the test solutions created locally move smoothly into production overseas.'

Vice President of Operations of Global Test Taiwan, Jon Hwu, added, ``We rely on the Teradyne J971 and J973's fast test times and high reliability to offer our customers the lowest cost of test. Our business is expanding rapidly as a direct result of the worldwide demand for Teradyne test systems. Additionally, the advanced technology of the Teradyne J971 and J973 will ensure that we will be able to support our customer's needs for many years to come.'

I wish the Wall St Journal would publish a story on "COHU inside" that would give us more press. maybe sending our story to a writer at the journal would help?

as far as getting more analysts to cover, i think it has been addressed on this thread before. COHU doesnt need brokerage firms to raise capital for COHU at this time. a catch 22.

i am sure other analysts know about COHU but dont want to say anything about COHU since their firms would not benefit from it.

looks like COHU is consolidating short term. is it my imagination or does splits no longer give big jumps in stock prices anymore?
