Yes there has been a manipulation. I have stressed this over and over, I have also stressed that this manipulation would not be successful without the complicity of the producers. You have resisted this premise rather focusing on the short sellers, the cb's, and the bullion banks. While this group is culpable, they could not have succeeded without the in ground reserves of the seniors being sold forward at a discount resulting in increased supply. This additional supply has replaced the gold lost thru mine closures upsetting the mechanism for any commodity from finding its equilibrium price.

Why would a private company bother to do that?

What advantage would you get if the price was going to go up but you sold gold to drive it down
