Les, re: CPI methodology, it's positively disgusting. but as you say, at some point the markets will begin to ignore the 'baked' numbers and the era of bubble management will suddenly be over.

Les, the stream of questionable economic stats from the gov't reminds me of the public's attitude towards Clinton- some are outraged others say i don't vote Paula jones i vote Dow Jones . The public wants to party on with lethal doses of debt and speculation until the end - they cannot be reasoned with. Mike

I have to admit to be shocked by today's action in light of the better than expected CPI. Normally the action follows this pattern:

Repeated Bad News = Down a bit.

Bad News = A weak opening followed by a slow grind up that cuts the losses.

Good News = A melt up followed by a short covering rally followed by one of my rants on Ask Mike Burke.
