Hi John Walliker; These assumptions of parallel termination in DDR &. were wrong. The parallel terminations only apply to situations where you have a long sequence of parts on a transmission line, where each part has to get a decent transition edge.

This requirement doesn't apply to the data bus on RDRAM, or even the address bus.

The basic problem with your analysis is that you used the incredibly expensive transmission line termination scheme on a logic family that doesn't require it.

That 800MHz speed that rambus achieves is achieved at a cost, and one of those costs is the requirement that all those lines be treated as transmission lines.

It is true, (I think), that the narrow traces will radiate more effectively. Rambus is running at 800MHz (i.e. 400MHz peak). This is four times faster than DDR, and this is why rambus has to be so careful.

Also note that with the circuit topologies we have used, the rambus data lines go to about four times as many chips, and have four times the frequency of the DDR lines. This means that measured in terms of wavelengths, they are a lot longer, and therefore radiate much more efficiently.

But slowly, we are coming to agreement on power consumption, No?
