Ericsson says no interest in Qualcom mobile buy

STOCKHOLM, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Swedish telecoms group Ericsson <LMEb.ST> on Wednesday denied that it had any interest in buying the mobile telephone division of California-based Qualcomm Inc <QCOM.O>, which is up for sale.

"Just now we have no interest in buying their mobile telephone business," Peter Bodor, spokesman for the company's Consumer Products Division told Reuters. Earlier on Wednesday, Ericsson declined to comment on the issue.

Qualcomm said late on Tuesday it hoped to sell its mobile telephone business by the end of the year to focus on developing its more lucrative wireless technology business.

Analysts said Ericsson would have been a likely candidate for the deal because the U.S. company has a well-developed code division multiple access technology, which is being deployed in new mobile networks.
