John,
I understand that keeping all of my assets in one stock as I do can have a disastrous effect on my net worth. The money that was generated from stock investments over the years has grown mostly in my IRA. This is money that I normally would not use at my age (38 this week). As such, I got tired of watching most of my stocks languish while my DELL shares soared. Also, I spent a good deal of time watching all of the different companies that I owned. I realized that my quality of life is better when I pick the winners and let them run. Over time, more and more of my portfolio migrated to DELL. Now it is in only two stocks. DELL and a small position in their new wireless partner AIRO Net (AIRO).
The rest as I said before is in the house.
I am in a fairly marketable area in terms of my job. I find that if I were to lose everything I own, my life would still be fine. They are just things. As such, I do trust DELL the company and believe that in the long term, it will out perform the majority of the stocks (of profitable companies) on the market. I also believe that it is fairly safe from some major catastrophe (going to zero). Since my average cost per share is in the teens with some shares in single digits, I also don't think my original investment is much in danger of being lost.

I agree with you in general. Just lost too much money in Mutual funds (opportunity cost) by being TOO safe and diversified.
