IJNT.net To Deploy First xDSL Modem to Receive Approval and Registration Under FCC Part 68 Rules
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1999--IJNT.net (OTC BB:IJNT - news), a leading high-speed Internet access and telecommunications provider and Web development company, announced Thursday that the 1-Meg Modem being deployed by its UrJet Backbone Network (''UBN'') subsidiary has become the first xDSL customer premise equipment (''CPE'') to receive formal approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under Rules Part 68 - Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone Network.

The 1-Meg Modem, manufactured by IJNT.net partner Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT - news), is the only xDSL modem in the industry to have received the status.

In an Order Opinion and Memorandum issued in July, the FCC indicated that all DSL equipment connected to the Public Network must be Part 68 approved. Although other modems have received Part 68 approval as miscellaneous equipment, only Nortel Networks' 1-Meg Modem meets the FCC's mandatory Part 68 connection requirement for xDSL modems, assuring it will not cause Public Network degradation with crosstalk, high voltage or other damaging impacts. By meeting the Power Spectrum Density (PSD) mask, specified in the National Standards T1.413 Issue 2 as well as other FCC technical requirements, Nortel Networks provided the FCC with sound technical proof that its 1-Meg Modem service would not cause harm to the network.

As one of the early deployments of the 1-Meg Modem, IJNT.net will continue to lead the broadband access industry in both wired and wireless high-speed access technology deployment. The 1-Meg Modem delivers cost-effective bandwidth to residential subscribers, Small Office/Home Office users, telecommuters and to both the hospitality and educational marketplaces.

Equipped with the 1-Meg Modem, existing copper loops can support simultaneous data and voice/fax on a single line, with always-on data connectivity (no dial-up sequences or busy signals). Data rates up to 1.28 Mbps downstream and 320 Kbps upstream allow quick access to today's multimedia-rich content and access to the Internet and corporate/university LANs at blazing speeds.

1-Meg Modem is the technology of choice for mass-market deployment of DSL services. Its ease of deployment and plug and play design, combined with the operational benefits provided by its integrated voice and data architecture, allow quick, low cost service rollout.

The FCC approval opens retail channels for 1-Meg Modem CPE distribution since Part 68 registration alleviates retailers' concerns about liability for Public Network damage. ''This development will allow our customers to receive the 1-Meg Modem through our toll-free number, or to purchase their modems from a retail establishment,'' said Jon H. Marple, IJNT.net Chairman. ''When the customer arrives at the home or office with the 1-meg Modem, he or she will be able to call us and obtain high-speed service almost immediately in any of our service areas with this plug-and-play device. Having incorporated the 1-Meg Modem from the start, our network is uniquely adapted to take advantage of cooperative marketing of the 1-Meg Modem to accelerate the acquisition of new subscribers in our target markets. With Part 68 approval for 1-Meg Modem CPE, we eliminate the need for ILEC approval before every installation, avoiding substantial delays in service activation.''
