somewhat OT - personally I think people's perceptions of gold are still a bit clouded by nostalgia for the "golden age" of the price deregulation mania 20 years ago. Witness the large amount of talk there is about gold vs. the miniscule fraction that gold miners make up in the S&P. How come they always list the price of gold along with oil and the dollar on the front page of newspapers, but the price of aluminum is buried in the back pages? I can tell you, as an insider to the gold mining business, that the vast majority of people who go hunting for gold have always gone broke, but that doesn't stop them, the myth is too powerful. Even in the Klondike days you were better off selling picks and shovels than mining for gold ...sorry, I'm ranting! <g>
