<This is much more than a .1% divergence. >

I don't know that human and bonobo genome are 99.9% identical, but whether it is that or 98%, the similarity is amazing. What is also amazing, and is one more of the many, many facts which help prove evolution, is that humans (and any animal)share some of the exact same genes as, say, an oak tree. Evolution says that if you go back far enough, and you and the oak tree had a common ancestor. What was probably a single celled organisim. And it is amazing, but true, that ALL life on earth shares the exact same code of DNA, using 4 bases as letters to spell out the genes. Now these 4 bases are not the only ones logically or in fact possible, and the fact that ALL life uses the exact same genetic code, of course tends to indicate that all life had a common origin. (Rather than life arising several times on earth, with one branch evolving to the plants, another the animals, etc. Didn't happen that way.)
