Sept. 9 would be 090999, or 990909, depending upon the naming convention been used to indicate a date. While it is true that some computer programmers trigger a loop of computations to stop, such a number would indicate the ninety-ninth day of the ninety-ninth month in the ninety-ninth year. Such a date simply does not exist.

Not to quibble, but this is a game of details...

"naming convention"? Let's try storage format.

"such a date simply does not exist"...so what. There's also no such thing as months 13, 14...18. Which I've heard used when shifting between two accounting systems.

"does not exist" is a very dangerous term in software...with imagination & hard work, all sorts of unimaginable things "exist".
